What would a new website actually fix?
Start with a specific problem. Perhaps you cannot edit old service details. Perhaps customers cannot use the booking form on their phones. Perhaps a technical setting is keeping search services out.
Some problems need a larger repair. Others need a page edit or a setting changed. Ask someone to show you the problem and explain the options before agreeing to a rebuild.
What about special AI files and packages?
You may hear about SEO, AEO and GEO. These are names used for work intended to help a business appear in search results or AI answers. Ask what the actual work includes.
Google says you do not need special AI files or special AI labels in your website’s code for its AI search features. You may hear these sold as “llms.txt” or “AI schema”. That advice is about Google. Other tools can work differently.
A useful proposal names the pages and problems, explains the changes and says how the work will be checked. “We make you AI-ready” does not tell you enough.
Made-up example / Bicycle repair shop
An old website with an easy-to-fix omission
A bicycle repair shop has a working website. It still shows last year’s hours and never mentions electric bicycle repairs.
Updating those details is a sensible first job. Replacing the whole site would need another reason, such as a booking system that cannot be repaired.
One thing to try
Ask these questions before agreeing to work
- What is wrong with my current website? Please show me an example.
- Can we fix that on the existing site?
- Which pages or settings will you change, and what will it cost?
- How will you check that the problem is fixed?
How to check the result
- Return to the same page or saved answer and compare it with your notes.
- Check the specific detail you changed. Keep anything you could not verify marked as unknown.
You should understand the problem and the proposed fix before paying for the work.
