What should I change on my website first?

Start with one page about something you sell. Make it clear what it is, who it is for, what is included and how someone takes the next step.

Use the questions customers already ask you

Think about the last few emails, calls or conversations you had before a sale. What did people need to know? Those questions are a useful starting point for your page.

You might need to explain the price, delivery area, appointment length or experience required. Give the real answer. If the price depends on the job, explain what affects it and how to get a quote.

Make the answers easy to find

Use a clear heading above each topic. Keep the important details in the page text, even if you also have a brochure, image or video. A visitor should not have to watch a five-minute video to discover where you work.

You do not need a new article for every small question. Often the useful change is adding two honest sentences to a page you already have.

Made-up example / Sewing teacher

Can I join if I have never used a sewing machine?

A teacher sells an online sewing course. The page says “Unlock your creativity”, but does not explain whether beginners can join.

A useful replacement is: “This course starts with threading your machine. You need a sewing machine and basic supplies. The lessons are recorded, so you can pause and repeat them.” Only include details that are true for that course.

One thing to try

Improve one page today

  1. Open the page for your main service, course or product.
  2. Write down three questions customers ask before buying.
  3. Add any missing answers under clear headings. Use the words you would use when speaking to a customer.
  4. Read the page on your phone. Find the price or quote information, then try the contact or buying button.

How to check the result

  • Return to the same page or saved answer and compare it with your notes.
  • Check the specific detail you changed. Keep anything you could not verify marked as unknown.

A useful answer beats a vague promise. Start with what you know from doing the work.
